Not Everyone Who Says “Lord, Lord”

Not Everyone Who Says “Lord, Lord”

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches about the importance of living a righteous life and warns against false prophets and teachers. He says, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” This verse has been interpreted in various ways, but one common understanding is that simply saying the words “Lord, Lord” is not enough to be a true follower of Jesus.

There are many people who claim to be Christians but do not live according to the teachings of Jesus. They may go to church on Sundays, but they do not love their neighbors as themselves. They may pray and read the Bible, but they do not follow the commandments. These people are like the foolish builders who build their houses on sand. When the storms come, their houses are destroyed.

In the next section, we will discuss what it means to do the will of the Father and how we can live a life that is pleasing to God.

not everyone who says lord lord

Mere words are not enough for salvation.

  • Actions speak louder than words.
  • Faith without works is dead.
  • Do the will of the Father.
  • Love God and love others.
  • Live a righteous life.
  • Bear good fruit.
  • Beware of false prophets.
  • Enter through the narrow gate.

Those who do the will of the Father will enter the kingdom of heaven.

Actions speak louder than words.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus emphasizes the importance of living out our faith in our actions, not just talking about it. He says, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits.”

  • Our actions reveal our true character.

What we do speaks louder than what we say. If we claim to love God but our actions show that we love money or power more, then our actions reveal our true priorities.

  • Our actions have consequences.

Our actions can affect others for good or for bad. When we act kindly and compassionately, we create a positive impact on the world around us. When we act selfishly or destructively, we create a negative impact.

  • Our actions can lead to eternal consequences.

The Bible teaches that we will be judged by our actions on the Day of Judgment. Those who have done good works will enter eternal life, while those who have done evil works will be condemned to eternal punishment.

  • We should focus on doing good works.

Jesus said, “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” We should not do good works to be seen by others, but we should do them because it is the right thing to do and because it glorifies God.

When our actions match our words, we are living a life that is pleasing to God. We are showing the world that we are true followers of Jesus Christ.
